PLANO, TX – SKANDIA, MI – David C. Jarrett, age 83, of Plano, Texas, and formerly of Skandia, entered eternal life September 2, 2026, in Plano.
David was born September 19, 1942, in Alexandria, Indiana, a son of Clayton P. and Betty J. (Sattler) Jarrett. He was raised in Des Moines, Iowa, and graduated from the Roosevelt High School in January 1961. In February of 1961 , David entered the US Air Force, beginning a career that would span over 20 years, 19 years of which would be spent at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base as an aircraft mechanic technician. Additionally, he was employed with Belmore Taxi, driving for 9 years on the weekends before being sent to Vietnam in 1971. On July 31, 1965 he married Susan K. LaMere in Marquette. The couple raised their three sons while stationed at K.I. Sawyer. David retired from the Air Force in March of 1981. Following retirement, he worked in transit alert at K.I. Sawyer and attended the Jacobetti Skill Center, receiving certification in air conditioning and heating. He ran his own small business, DJ Air Conditioning and Refrigeration for a time. Following the base closure, he was employed at Econo Foods as head of maintenance for 3 years and then returned to Sawyer where he worked for American Eagle for 10 years as crew chief aircraft mechanic. He retired on October 31, 2008. David was known as “Homesteader” with a total of 43 years employed at the base, having the opportunity to watch it grow throughout the years. David was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, gardening vegetables, flowers, and shrubs, feeding the birds and squirrels, and traveling with Sue in their RV whenever possible. He had a lifelong love of repairing things and maintenance. David was a scout master of Troop 356 in Skandia, was a member of the Little Lake American Legion Post #349, the Air Force Association, Sergeant’s Association, North American Hunting and Fishing Association. He and Sue shared a love of Country and Western Music.
Survivors include his wife, Susan; sons, David C. Jarrett Jr and Keith (Rebecca) Jarrett both of Plano, TX; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Jarrett of Sands; his grandchildren, Keith James, Timothy Allen, Bryan Joseph, Destiny Mae Jarrett, Devin Andrew Jarrett, and Jaime Lynn Bellamy; great-grandchildren, Aubriella Rose Bellamy and Oden Ezekiel Bellamy; sisters, Patti (Wayne) Meschmier of Pleasant Hills and Linda (Ed) Kilts of Des Moines, IA; a sister-in-law, Marge Jarrett of Des Moines, IA; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by a son, James Jarrett; a sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Robert Stohr; a sister, Becky Herr; and his brother, Richard Jarrett.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Fassbender Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services on Monday, October 5, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. A short service will begin at 6:00 pm.
