Ruth was born August 19, 1933, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Carl Frederick and Nora Bornheimer. She graduated from Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw and attended Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant.
In October 1953, she married Carleton Hubbard in La Porte, MI. He preceded her in death on February 1, 2014.

She later opened the Calico Hen and Cabins in Detour Village, where she sold antiques, art, and local crafts. The couple then moved to St. Ignace, where Ruth worked for the Forest Service and continued her passion for antiques at the Calico Hen located in the Boardwalk Inn.
Ruth had a lifelong love of antiques. Over the years, she maintained booths at the Antique Mall in Saginaw and Jedidiah’s in Petoskey, and she helped her daughter, Dawn, with her Calico Hen shop in Richards Landing, Ontario.
Ruth and Carleton moved frequently, enjoying the challenge of renovating homes and creating beautiful gardens. In all, Ruth renovated nine homes. She took great pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and cherished their many accomplishments and academic achievements.
