SARASOTA, FL – An informal celebration of life for Peter Y. LaVoy, former Marquette resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at Marquette American Legion Post 44.
He died November 17, 2025, in Sarasota, Fla., at age 79.
He was born in Sturgeon Bay, Wis., and moved to Marquette in the early 1960s. He graduated from Marquette Senior High School and Northern Michigan University. Peter served in the U.S. Army including 1970-71 in Vietnam. He returned to Marquette and worked for Marquette School District.
Survivors include his sister, Ruth LaVoy Nerhaugen of Red Wing, Mn.; a brother, John LaVoy (Susan) of Munsville, N.Y.; nephews Lucas (Emily), Charlie (Emily), Logan and Thomas (Sarah) LaVoy and Stanley Nerhaugen III; niece LeeAnn Keller, and several grand-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kate and Fred LaVoy, and a sister, Judy Leanes.
Burial with military honors will be at noon Saturday, August 29, at Evergreen Cemetery in Algoma, Wis.
