HARVEY, MI – It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the tragic death of Michael John Stuer, 76, of Harvey, who died on Thursday, August 13, 2026 while out for one of his many daily motorcycle rides.
He was born June 6, 1950, in Marquette, the son of John and Geraldine (Davis) Stuer. He was a proud 1968 graduate of Bishop Baraga High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Education from NMU. He was a public school teacher for 20 years and later worked at Bunny Bread as a route and semi-truck driver until his retirement.
“Stui” to most, had a passion for collecting and riding motorcycles, an enthusiasm for cars that started with his Model A Ford, a joy of daily cribbage games with friends and a love of local history and music. His love of driving led to many fun motorhome adventures. He was an avid supporter of his children and grandchildren, always cheering for them at every game and event and letting them know he was their #1 fan. Though not a hunter, he treasured his time at the family hunting camp. Summer days at Deer Lake were never short on lively conversations with Grandpa Stui.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Bonnie (Salo) Stuer of Harvey; daughter, Shana (Jeff Huls) Stuer of Harvey, son, Brian (Lacy) Stuer of Eben Junction; granddaughters, Kylie and Kennedy and grandson, Michael; mother-in-law, Jennie Salo; sisters-in-law, Julie Salo and Lori Hicks; brothers-in-law, Dan (Michelle) Salo and Michael (Peggy) Salo; several nieces and nephews; and sister, Sandra (Ev) Stuer-Fowler. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tommy Stuer; and father-in-law, Tom Salo.
He will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him. He was always smiling, kind, and wished everyone well. Stui was authentic and outspoken about how lucky he was and how much he loved his life.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date .
