GWINN, MI- Jayson J. Dutiel, 50, of Gwinn, passed away unexpectedly on August 20, 2026.
Jayson was born on January 27, 1976, in Wiesbaden, Hessen, Germany, to Bruce and Frances (Sherer) Dutiel. He graduated from Midland Senior High School and attended Alpena Community College where he graduated as an RN.
On August 8, 2014, Jayson married Rebecca R. Rautio in Gwinn. They loved each other, their children, their life together, and their pets immensely.
Jayson worked as a registered nurse at various locations throughout his career, including Marquette General Hospital in the Medical Oncology Department, where he met his future wife, Rebecca. He also worked for MGH Home Health, Marquette Branch Prison, and D.J. Jacobetti. He loved being an RN and had a passion for taking care of people that followed him into his next job, as the owner and operator of A Cut Above Tree and Lawn Care, a job he loved and took great pride in. Jayson thrived on giving his customers the best deals and care he could, and taking care of his work team, whom he considered family. Jayson never met a person who was not a friend to him.
Jayson was a devoted family man who loved caring for his family. Above all else, his wife and children meant the world to him. He was a loving, caring, and committed father and husband who cherished every moment he spent with them. He took great pride in taking care of his family, and teaching them how to be good human beings.
In his spare time, Jayson enjoyed relaxing at home, and spending time with his family and pets. He was also deeply dedicated to his community and was always helping others. Every day he would do his good deed of the day for someone, whether it was a stranger, or friend. He instilled in his children the importance of doing a good deed a day for someone too, and was very proud of their kindness.
Jayson is survived by his loving wife, Rebecca Dutiel of Gwinn; his children, Kendall and Alexander Dutiel of Gwinn; his father, Bruce (Carol) Dutiel, of Trenary, MI; his in-laws, Pam and Bill Rautio of Gwinn; sisters and brother-in-laws, Shannon (Brad) Parlato of Kalamazoo, MI, Todd (Diana) Rautio of Marquette, and Rachel Rautio of Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland; his nephews, Traver (Megan) Parlato, Tony Parlato, Bryce Rautio, Braylen Rautio, and James Blumhorst; his step-siblings, Bradley Converse of Marquette and Sabrina (Tom) Troy of Alpena; his uncles, Phillip (Amy) Dutiel of Heath, OH and Craig (Becky) Dutiel of Hawkins, TX; his uncles, Tim (Janis) Sherer of Lakewood Ranch, FL and Joseph (Maryanne) Sherer of Tar Heel, North Carolina; and cousin Lisa (Zaq) Sherer of Lakewood Ranch, FL.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances LaValley.
Jayson will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Canale Gwinn Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. in the funeral home, with Pastor Billie K. Ladwig officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow the service in the funeral home reception hall. Casual dress is welcomed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jayson's memory to his children, Delta Animal Shelter, or the Gwinn Area Community Schools.
