APPLETON, WI – Donald “Don” Aho, age 76, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026.
He was born on September 3, 1949, to Edwin and Katherine (Bessonen) Aho in Laurium, Michigan. Don graduated from Wakefield High School and went on to attend Northland College, where he played football and earned his business degree. He later went on to earn a MBA degree.
His athletic ability and love of football led to opportunities to try out for the Packers, Bears and Vikings. Unfortunately, those opportunities were cut short after a skiing accident in which he broke his leg in seven places. While sports were an important part of Don’s life, hockey became one of his greatest passions. He began coaching hockey when his boys were young and continued coaching long after they had left home. Don will be remembered for his love of sports, his dedication to coaching, and the many lives he touched through his work with young athletes.
Don is survived by his children, Loren Aho (Bethany Campbell) of Fairfax, Virginia; Nathan Aho (Robin) of Marquette; and Bethany Heinz of Greenville, Wisconsin and grandchildren: Alexis, Kayla, Emma, Easton, Caleb, Caitlin and Mark.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Aho and Katherine (Bessonen) Aho; his brother, Gary Aho; and his wife, Christina Aho and granddaughter Ashley.
