Skye Taylor Johnson
MARQUETTE, MI- Skye Taylor Johnson, 30, of Marquette, passed away on June 27, 2026.
Skye was born on January 11, 1996, in Ishpeming, Michigan, to Jennifer Van Wormer and Glenn Johnson. She graduated from Northview High School in Grand Rapids in 2014 and attended Grand Rapids Community College.
Skye worked in various waitressing positions throughout the Grand Rapids area. Most recently, she fulfilled a dream by spending a summer in Soldotna, Alaska, working at Alaska King Salmondeaux Lodge on the Kenai River.
Growing up, Skye enjoyed participating in many sports, including hockey, basketball, softball, soccer, and swimming. She had a lifelong love for the outdoors and adventure, enjoying BMX, motocross, dirt bikes, four-wheeling, ATV riding, hiking, skating, snowboarding, and skiing. In her free time, she loved listening to music-especially rap-attending concerts, traveling, and watching sports. She was a devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Red Wings.
Skye had an extraordinary love for animals and often rescued dogs and cats. She had a heart of gold and was known for her generosity, kind spirit, quick wit, and infectious sense of humor. Her name was inspired by the phrase, “the sky is the limit,” and those who knew her would agree it suited her perfectly.
Skye is survived by her mother, Jennifer Van Wormer of Grand Rapids; her father, Glenn Johnson of Marquette; her grandfathers, Charles “Sandy” Van Wormer of Marquette and Dale (Darla) Johnson of Champion; her grandmother, Marcia Coron-Hemmila of Marquette; her aunts, Jackie Van Wormer of Wausau, Wisconsin, Sandy (John) Joyner of Sagola, Janet Johnson of Battle Creek, and Tina Johnson of Ishpeming; her uncles, Charles âJRã (Yuki) Van Wormer of Severance, Colorado, and John Wasmuth of Champion; her cousins, Sarah Wasmuth, John Wasmuth, Ed Anderson, James Van Wormer, Saya Van Wormer, and Juna Van Wormer; and her beloved fur babies, North, Koda, Maxine, Charles “Mr. Man, and Ruth “Sissa.”
