Rosemary Trewhella

MARQUETTE, MI Rosemary Trewhella, age 97, of Marquette, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Assisted Independence in the loving care of the staff.

Born in Negaunee, Michigan, on December 12, 1928, Rosemary was the daughter of Wilfred and Jean (Fleming) Vizina. She was raised in Negaunee, where she developed the strong family values and compassionate spirit that would define her life.

On December 13, 1945, Rosemary married the love of her life, James Trewhella. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved to Wisconsin, where Jim learned the machine shop trade. They later settled in California, where Jim established his own machine shop business, and together they raised their family. Throughout their lives, Rosemary and Jim also opened their hearts and home to 18 foster children, providing love, guidance, and stability to countless young lives.

Following their retirement, Rosemary and Jim returned to Michigan and owned and operated Maple Ridge Resort in Michigamme. After Jim’s passing in 1996, Rosemary made her home in Marquette with her son, Bobby, where she remained until 2023 when she went into assisted care.

Rosemary found joy in entertaining family and friends, shopping, tending her flower beds and gardens, and visiting with those around her. More than anything, she treasured being a mother. Her family remembers her as a loving, compassionate woman who was always there with a listening ear and a shoulder to lean on. She will be remembered for her generous heart, unwavering devotion to her family, and the kindness she extended to everyone she met.

She is survived by her sons, Bobby Trewhella of Marquette and Ron Trewhella of California; her daughter, Veronica Bell of Arkansas; her grandchildren, Brian, Kevin, and Sherri; several great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Trewhella, in 1996; her parents, Wilfred and Jean Vizina; and her siblings, Donny, Herbert, Dale, Mary Lou, and Barbara Vizina.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Assisted Independence, 9067 County Road 550, Marquette, MI 49855, or U.P. Home Health and Hospice, 1125 West Ridge Street, Marquette, MI 49855.
