MARQUETTE, MI- Rose M. Paquette, 88, affectionately known to all as “Meme,” passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Eastwood Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.
Born on November 8, 1937, at St. Mary's Hospital in Marquette, Michigan, she was the daughter of Henry E. and Ina A. L'Huillier. She graduated from Graveraet High School in 1955, and she went on to work at her uncle Clayton's bar “The Shoreland.” Later on in her 40s, she worked at AMCAB providing services to families throughout Marquette County.
Rose married Paul Paquette on December 5, 1969, and they built a house in Skandia, Michigan. Over the course of 25 years, they provided a warm and welcoming home to over 100 foster children. They received community recognition for their service, which is memorialized on a plaque at the Marquette County Courthouse. After years of serving her community, Rose went on to focus on raising her family.
A deeply social and inviting woman, she had the ability to make anyone feel welcome. To all those she came across, she was completely nonjudgemental and had a zest for life that often made her the center of attention. Never one to sit at home, she loved to be on the go, taking along grandkids on numerous shopping adventures. Meme looked for the good in people and had a knack for bringing out the best in them.
Meme had a playful spirit and enjoyed time at the casino where she made numerous friendships among staff and patrons, and luck seemed to always be on her side. She also loved crafting with her family, camping trips, her Bunco group, and rummage sales (buying and hosting). However, her truest happiness came when she interacted with children; if a child was fortunate enough to encounter Meme, you could always expect smiles and laughter in the room. Along with her love for children, she had a giving spirit and one could not leave her house without a treat, gift, or memorable item.
Rose is survived by her devoted husband, Paul; her brothers, Robert L'Huillier and Paul L'Huillier; and her sister, Rebecca L. L'Huillier; her daughters, Tina Tregembo (Wrightstown, WI) and Lisa (Chris) Wetton (Marquette, MI). Meme's legacy of love continues through her grandchildren: Heather (Daniel) Flynn, Jessica (Tom) Reynolds, Hollie (Chad) Collar, Amber (Ivan) Talo, Cody (Katelyn) Wetton, Ashley (Dylan) Morton (who is expecting a baby boy in November), and Nathan (Tracy) Farnsworth. She also leaves behind eleven great-grandchildren: Mikhayla Norville, Hannah and David Reynolds, Calder, Aiden, and Kaleb Farnsworth, Ollie and Ari Talo, Isla Wetton, Nora and Porter Collar, as well as her great-great-granddaughter, Alayna Thill (fifth generation).
She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ina L'Huillier; her brother, John “Jack” L'Huillier; her sisters, Cheryl Sue Blackburn, and Sue Carol L'Huillier; her brother-in-law, David Blackburn; her daughter, Kimberly Pleaugh; and her grandson, Adam Farnsworth.
Family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, July 31, 2026 at St. Michael Catholic Church beginning at 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 noon in the church with Rev. Emmanuel Barwuah officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church reception hall. Burial will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.
