Rose M. Moreau

MARQUETTE, MI- Rose M. Moreau, age 96, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, at Trillium House in Marquette, following a brief illness. She was surrounded by the loving care of her family and the compassionate staff at Trillium House.

Rose was born on July 18, 1929, in Ironwood, Michigan, to the late Kostek and Mary Petrowsky. She attended L.L. Wright High School before moving to Marquette, where she began building a life filled with hard work, kindness, and friendship.

From 1953 until 1962, Rose worked at the once well-known Bon Ton Restaurant in Marquette, where she enjoyed meeting people and forming lasting friendships. When Shopko opened in Marquette, she joined the company in 1970 and remained a dedicated employee until her retirement in 1997 from the Oshkosh, Wisconsin, store.

Following retirement, Rose made her home at Morraine Ridge in Green Bay, Wisconsin. There, she became known for her caring heart and willingness to help fellow residents. She found great joy in serving others, so much so that many residents believed she worked there. Rose was truly a people person who greeted everyone with a warm smile, a kind word, and a genuine interest in everyone she met.

One of Rose’s favorite stories was her “almost claim to fame.” During the filming of Anatomy of a Murder in Marquette in 19581959, she and her friend, Dixie Richer, were seated in the courtroom audience during filming. Director Otto Preminger eventually asked them to leave because they were talking and laughing. The film would go on to receive seven Academy Award nominations and starred James Stewart, Ben Gazzara, George C. Scott, and Lee Remick. It remained a story Rose loved to share throughout her life.

Rose’s greatest legacy was her kindness. Whether helping a neighbor, encouraging a friend, or simply sharing her beautiful smile, she made those around her feel welcomed and cared for. She possessed a servants heart and found genuine happiness in making life a little brighter for others.

A woman of deep Catholic faith, Rose trusted in Gods love throughout her life. Her family finds comfort in knowing she has now been welcomed into the loving embrace of her Heavenly Father, reunited with those who have gone before her.

Rose is survived by her daughter, JoAnn Menucci Moon and her husband, Stephen Moon; her daughter, Marilyn Menucci Cook; her son, John Michael Menucci and his wife, Cindy Bell Menucci; her grandchildren, Mark Moon, Jennifer Moon, Anthony Menucci, and Tyler Menucci; her great-grandchildren, Jera Jennings and Kayler Moon; along with many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Friends may call at Canale Funeral Home on Friday, July 17, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon in the funeral home with Rev. Zachary Mazurek officiating. A reception and time of fellowship will immediately follow the funeral service in the Canale Funeral Home reception room.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trillium House or Lake Superior Life Care & Hospice in Marquette in recognition of the compassionate care Rose received during her final days.
