Robert Barr

Robert Raymond “Bob” Barr, 82, of Skandia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Brookridge Heights in Marquette.

Born on August 5, 1943, in Escanaba, Bob was the son of Andrew and Ellen (Lusardi) Barr. Raised on the family dairy farm in Bark River, he developed the strong work ethic that defined his life. He graduated from Bark River High School in 1961 and, on June 15, 1963, married the love of his life, the former Bonnie Good, in Bark River. Together they shared more than 63 wonderful years of marriage.

Bob began his career as a carpenter in Marquette before becoming a partner at Closner Construction. He took great pride in his work and retired in 1993 at the age of 50, though retirement never slowed him down. Bob believed in staying busy and continued working hard throughout his life.

Retirement gave Bob the opportunity to enjoy the things he loved most. Whether he was hunting, cutting firewood, logging his property, or spending countless hours on his beloved John Deere tractor, he was happiest outdoors. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and neighbors. Bob and Bonnie also treasured their travels throughout the United States in their RV, creating lasting memories together, especially during their many adventures in the Southwest.

A proud member of the Skandia community, Bob served with the Skandia Volunteer Fire Department and was an active member of the Skandia Lions Club. He played an instrumental role in the construction of the Skandia Pavilion and personally built the family’s cherished cottage on Presque Isle, WI leaving a lasting legacy for generations to enjoy.

Above all, Bob’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Bonnie; his sons, Jeff (Lori) Barr of Carlsbad, California, and Steve (Kathy) Barr of AuTrain; his grandchildren, Kristina Barr, Andrew (Alicia) Barr, Jessica Good, and Nichole (Caleb) Rhodes; five great-grandchildren, Ivan, Sariah, Calien, Ander, and Verrill; his brother, James (Sharon) Barr of Escanaba; his sister, Nancy Hammerberg of Baraga; sister-in-law Linda Barr of Sun City, AZ; along with several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother Andrew “Butch” Barr and brother-in-law Ken Hammerberg.

Bob will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, generous heart, quiet strength, and willingness to help anyone in need. His legacy lives on through the family he loved, the community he faithfully served, and the many lives he touched.
