MARQUETTE, MI – Paula S. Matchett, 79, of Marquette, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at U.P. Health System-Marquette.
Paula was born on April 5, 1947, in Marquette to Douglas and Monica (Parker) Normand. She graduated from Bishop Baraga High School and went on to attend Northern Michigan University, where she pursued her passion for helping others by studying nursing. Prior to starting her family, Paula dedicated her time to caring for others as a nurse at Newberry State Hospital.
On November 23, 1972, Paula married the love of her life, Robert L. Matchett, in Rockford, Illinois. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around their family, sharing many wonderful years of love and partnership.
Paula was a devoted and active member of St. Michael Catholic Church, and a vigilant prayer warrior. She had a creative soul and a warm heart, finding great joy in crafting and making beautiful, handmade cards for every occasion. She also loved gathering with those she held dear, sharing laughs over card and board games with family and friends.
Paula is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Yvonne) Matchett of Taylor, Texas, and Sarah Matchett of Marquette; her grandchildren, Jake, Joseph, Veronica, Jordan, Allen, Elliott, Elizabeth, and Madi.; her great-grandchildren, Briar, Harper, and another sweet baby on the way; her brother, Paul (Joanne) Normand of Fulton, Michigan; and several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins..
Paula was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas and Monica Normand; her beloved husband, Robert L. “Bob” Matchett; her sister, Sandra Eastman; and her brother-in-law, Robert Eastman.
Paula’s family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at St. Michael Catholic Church, beginning at 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m. noon in the church with Rev. Emmanuel Barwuah officiating. A luncheon will be served in the Zyrd Parish Center immediately following the Mass. Inurnment will conclude in the Holy Cross Cemetery Columbarium.
