Nancy Jean Gentz

ISHPEMING, MI – Heaven welcomed another gentle soul–an aunt, cousin to many, and a friend to all who knew her. Nancy Jean Gentz passed away on April 18, 2026. She was born on February 18, 1947, to Myrtle LaVigne Gentz Garvin and Willard Gentz.

Nancy was a beautiful soul who faced many challenges throughout her 79 years. Through her own determination, the support of her mother, Myrtle, the love of her extended LaVigne family and community support, she overcame much and touched many lives. In her final years with support from her guardian, Kim, she found a caring community at Cedar Hills in Ishpeming Michigan.

Although Nancy spent much of her life in a group home setting, she was determined to build a more independent life. She worked for several years at the Portside Inn in Marquette, secured her own apartment, and took great pride in her hard work and independence.

Nancy was welcomed into Heaven by her parents; her older sister, Beverly Holmes; her older brother, William Gentz; and a very special nephew, Patrick Holmes.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Sharry Gentz of Horseheads, New York, along with many nieces, nephews, and dozens of cousins.

A Christian burial will be celebrated at Fairview Cemetery in Manistique, MI, on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with Father Ben Paris officiating.

Fausett Family Funeral Homes of Manistique is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be shared at www.fausettfh.com.
