Luke Gustafson
PALMER, MI – Luke Pernell Gustafson, 61, of Palmer, passed away peacefully at home July 1, 2026 while in the care of his loving family and Lake Superior Hospice.
Luke was born May 20, 1965 in Ishpeming to Bernhardt and Helen (Willig) Gustafson and graduated from Gwinn High School, Class of 1983. Following graduation, he honorably served his country from 1984-1988 in the United States Navy aboard the USS Enterprise. Luke was a dedicated employee in the maintenance department at The Northern Center of Northern Michigan University.
An avid Miami Dolphins fan and music enthusiast, Luke enjoyed being outside listening to his tunes with a cold beer and playing in the yard with the neighborhood kids. More than anything, he was a family man who loved spending time with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Trudy (Manninen) Gustafson; bonus children: Rene’ Pietro of Negaunee Township and Justin (Kaylee) Chartre of Palmer; six grandchildren: Hayley, Kyleigh, Emmett, Macy, Belva and Ryland; two brothers: Alvin Gustafson of Forsyth Township and Mark Gustafson of Republic; sister, Reva (David) Laituri of Negaunee Township; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: David and Ruebin.
Honoring Luke’s wishes, no public services will be held. Interment will take place in the family plot at Bakkala Cemetery.
