GWINN, MI – Jack G. Morse, 76, of Gwinn, formerly of Grand Rapids and Lowell, Michigan, entered into eternal life peacefully, July 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.
Born on November 1, 1949, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Jack was the son of Albert and Virginia Morse. He attended Ball State University, where he met the love of his life, Linda. They were united in marriage and shared many wonderful years together, making their home in Lowell, Michigan, where they raised their family before retiring to Gwinn, Michigan. Linda preceded Jack in death on November 30, 2019.
Retirement brought Jack and Linda to Gwinn, where they quickly embraced their new community. They found lasting friendships, wonderful neighbors, and a place they truly considered home. Jack especially enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, spending time with friends, sharing stories, and appreciating the kindness of those around him.
His family will be forever grateful for the compassion, friendship, and support shown to Jack by so many in the Gwinn community. A special thank you is extended to the staff at U.P. Health System, whom Jack knew by name and always appreciated for their exceptional care. The family also wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Jill Froberg and Pat Strausburg, who faithfully stood by Jack’s side throughout his journey. It was a blessing to know the two people with whom Jack most loved spending his time.
Jack is survived by his children, Stephen Morse, Shannon McCourtie, and Cortney (Daniel) Kennedy; his grandchildren, Madison McCourtie, Zachary McCourtie, and Brent (Deanna) Gamalski; his great-grandson, Dominic Gamalski; his brothers, Rich (Marcia) Morse, Tom (Angela) Morse, Ed (Laura) Morse, Mike (Ruth Ann) Morse, Chuck (Terri) Morse, and Pat Morse; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, Linda, Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Virginia Morse.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 23, at 11:00 am at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gwinn, with Rev. Sebastian Oppong officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. A time of coffee and fellowship will immediately follow the Mass in the church hall. Burial will then take place at Park Cemetery.
Jack will be remembered for his warm heart, quiet strength, quick smile, and genuine kindness. He valued family above all else, treasured his friendships, and found joy in life’s simple moments. His gentle spirit and generous nature touched the lives of many, and his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
