Lillian Sofia Rivers

NEGAUNEE TWP, MI – Lillian Sofia Rivers, 97, formerly of Negaunee Township, entered eternal life Friday, June 5, 2026 at Brookridge Heights Assisted Living Memory Care in the care of her loving family, Brookridge Memory Care staff and Lake Super Life Care & Hospice.

Lillian was born September 6, 1928 to Earl and Lempi (Kempainen) Hill in Rudyard Township, Michigan. She was a 1946 graduate of Marquette Graverate High School and continued her education at Northern Michigan College completing a one year certificate in office procedure. Lillian had been employed by the First National Bank of Marquette and the J.M. Longyear Company prior to her marriage to Bernie Rivers on March 10, 1951. Lillian then devoted herself to being a stay-at-home Mom together with Bernie, raising three children in Negaunee Township.

Lillian was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Negaunee, serving as a Sunday School teacher, Church Council member, member of the Miriam Circle and Quilting Ladies, church secretary and several committees over the years.

Surviving are her children, David Rivers of Winnemucca, Nevada, Paula (Mike) Frustaglio of Negaunee and Bruce (Dianne) Rivers of Bremerton, Washington; seven grandchildren: Bradley (Kymberly) Frustaglio, Brian Frustaglio, Nicole (Jim) Parkinson, Randall (Shannon) Rivers, Crystal Rivers, Greg Rivers and Karla (Carlos) Camacho; six great-grandchildren: Madison, Max and Kate Frustaglio, Rian and Peyton Rivers, and Tyler Parkinson; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bernie in 1986; her brother, Wilford (Sonny) Hill; and her grandson, Donald Rivers.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 23rd at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Negaunee. Memorial services will begin at 11:00 AM with Rev. Bri Kinnunen officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. Interment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Lillian’s memory to Immanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund and/or Lake Superior Life Care & Hospice.
