Ronald Eugene “Ron” McGrady
SKANDIA, MI – Ronald Eugene “Ron” McGrady, age 79, of Skandia, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026 at home.
Ron was born on September 8, 1946 in Bluefield, West Virginia, the son of Claude and Mary (Taylor) McGrady. He was raised in Bluefield, West Virginia. Following his graduation from Cocoa High School, Ron worked at a gas station repairing cars and pumping gas. He also worked in drywall construction before enlisting in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.
Vietnam then K I Sawyer where he met his wife, Sue. They spent the next two years on a honeymoon stationed in Taiwan. Then to Ellsworth, South Dakota. Being in Red Horse Company he was deployed to Thailand unaccompanied.
Ron proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force for ten years.
They made their home in Skandia. Ron worked for Cleveland-Cliffs for ten years. In addition to his work at Cleveland-Cliffs, he also worked at Jilbert Dairy and opened his own garage in Skandia when he was laid off from CCI. Ron was truly a man of many talents. He could build nearly anything, perform complex mathematical calculations with ease, and rebuild automobiles from the ground up, like 47 Dodge, what’a piece of Art!
Sue said she’s never met a man that could hold a candle to him with 56 years of marriage.
A faithful member of Sion Lutheran Church, Ron shared his love of music by playing guitar and singing country gospel music at church, which he especially enjoyed. Also singing with the Church Guy’s singing at different churches even tho he sang solo.
Ron is survived by his loving wife, Sue Kralovetz McGrady; his son, Paul McGrady of Parker, Colorado; grandchildren, Trevor Dale McGrady; Alex and Sarah McGrady and great-grandson, Teddy McGrady; his sister, Marie Neal; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Ronnie McGrady Jr.; brothers, James McGrady JD , Garland McGrady, and David McGrady; and his grandson, Anthony McGrady.
A memorial service will take place at Sion Lutheran Church on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., with funeral services beginning at 12:00 p.m. Pastor Jeremy Ashley will officiate. A funeral luncheon will follow the service at the church.
