Richard ‘Dick’ Wells

Dick was the kind of man who lived his life with purpose-hard working, devoted to his family, and steadfast in his service to the Lord. Whether he was traveling, riding his motorcycle or snowmachine, skiing, fishing, listening and dancing to polka music, or spending time with his family on the lake, he brought joy, energy, and warmth to everyone around him.

He poured his heart into teaching business courses at Gwinn High School for nearly 30 years, advising the Business Office Education Club (BOEC) and investing deeply in the success of his students. He was passionate about coachingäguiding JV football players, the girls’ golf team, and the ski team and club with patience, enthusiasm, and a genuine desire to help young people grow. In addition to his years in education, Dick built and ran a successful construction company, affectionately known as “Huff and Puff” Construction, a name that reflected both his humor and his work ethic.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Judith (Hupy); his children, Eric (Jenny), Ryan (Heather), and Tonya (Mike) Grover; along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will continue to carry forward his stories, values, and love.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Delia Wells, and his brothers, Ray and Danny Wells.

Dick’s presence shaped the lives of those who knew him, and his absence will be felt deeply.

Family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gwinn, Michigan, beginning at 10:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Sebastian Oppong officiating. Military honors will be accorded. A light luncheon will immediately follow the Mass. Burial will take place in the Spalding Township Cemetery.
