Mary Louise Kunick
LUDINGTON, MI – Mary Louise Kunick, 84 of Ludington, formerly of Marquette, passed away in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loved ones.
Mary, lovingly known as Louise, was born on April 10, 1942, in a place called The Beaver Basin which was a logging camp in Melstrand, MI and was the only known baby to have been born there. Louise was the daughter of the late Bernard and Mildred (Goings) Massey. She was a graduate of Mather High School in 1960. On April 14, 1962, Louise married the love of her life, Ronald Joseph Kunick, and they created a wonderful life filled with laughter and love.
Louise embarked on a fulfilling career as a Nurse’s Assistant at Munising Memorial Hospital, where she dedicated 32 years of compassionate service before retiring in 1998. Her work not only showcased her caring nature but also her commitment to helping others in their times of need.
Louise was a dedicated member of the Munising Wesleyan Church where she was the Sunday school superintendent and led the music in the church. She was a part of a Quartet called The Wesleyaires and later a part of The Lighthouse Trio whom she sang with her daughter Kathy and friend Sam. Her love for singing was profound, often resonating within the walls of her church and her home. Louise’s hobbies included reading, working on puzzles, playing cards, traveling, going for rides, camping, and spending time with her family and friends. Each activity she undertook was infused with her humble, fun, loving, and feisty spirit, along with her remarkable gift of hospitality.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 64 years, Ronald Kunick; daughters Kathy (Kirk) Harger and Karla Kunick; and son John Kunick. Louise’s legacy also lives on through her grandchildren Stephen (Christine) Harger, Heather (Josiah) Coates, and Justin (Megan) Harger; great-grandchildren Kyren, Landon, Judah, Myra Ian, Grant, Ainsley, and Abram; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her daughter Rebecca Kunick, brothers Art Massey and James Massey, and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
A celebration of Louise’s life will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 11:30 AM at Munising Wesleyan Church, with visitation beginning at 10:30 AM. A meal and time of fellowship will follow the service.
