Joyce M. (Babcock) Sleeter
GWINN, MI – Joyce M. (Babcock) Sleeter, 83, of Gwinn, Michigan went home to be with her lord.
She was born February 27, 1943 at Ishpeming Hospital to Chester and Myrtle Babcock. She attended Gravereat High School and was a lifetime resident of the Marquette area.
In 1961, she married Walter F. Sleeter, Jr. She worked as a teacher’s aide at the Silver Creek School and ran a daycare center in their home. Later, she took hospice training and took care of numerous elderly people. Joyce loved helping people.
She served as a volunteer at Salvation Army for many years for which she received the Presidential Lifetime Volunteer Service Award. She loved working in her yard and garden watching her flowers and vegetables grow.
Joyce’s heart and passions were her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was there for all of them.
She was preceded in death by both her parents; husband, Walter Sleeter, Jr.; brother, Chester Babcock, Jr; and sister, Marlene Barto. Surviving are two sons, Terry (Cathy) of Marquette, John (Crystal) Sleeter of Marquette; and a daughter, Debbie (Larry) Jenkins of Marquette. She also leaves behind two brothers, Charles Babcock of Marquette, Larry (Karen) Babcock of Marquette; and sister, Betty Nordeen of Gwinn. Joyce is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 from 11 am to 12:30 pm at the Little Lake Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 12:30 with Rev. Ron Westman officiating. A luncheon will follow the service in the church hall. Interment will take place in Sands Township Cemetery.
