Gladys Dompierre
MARQUETTE, MI- Gladys Sylvia Dompierre, 90, of Marquette, entered eternal life early Tuesday morning, May 19, 2026 at Mill Creek Assisted Living in the care of her loving family and UP Home Health & Hospice.
Gladys was born October 28, 1935 in Barking Essex, England to Henry and Ethel (Barrett) Tree. During WWII, at the age of 4, she was evacuated from her home to Devon in South West England where she completed her primary schooling. She met and married the late Donald A. Johns while he was serving in the United States Air Force, and they moved back to the United States to where he was stationed in Illinois. Donald died while on active duty, so Gladys and her two daughters moved back to Negaunee.
Gladys married Wilfred G. Dompierre and together they raised their family in Negaunee. Aside from being a devoted homemaker for her family, Gladys was employed as a sales clerk at Pranges department store in Marquette. A devout member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, she volunteered at Marquette General Hospital, providing communion and ministry services. She enjoyed camping and travel with her family, was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and macrame.
Surviving are her children: Heather (Pat) Fulsher of Gwinn, Donna (Mike) Dubord of Skandia, Peter (Shannon) Dompierre of Gwinn and John A. Dompierre of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren: Tara (Mark) Menhennick, Kelly (Dean) Schultz, Cory (Amanda) Fulsher, Wendy (Byron) Koski, Penny (Chris) Comment, Michelle (Mark) Gallo, Patricia (Ken) Croston, Carrie Atkins, Seth (Kendra) Dompierre, Sierra (Mikael) Larson, Juliet Dompierre, Zane Dompierre, Amber Dompierre and John A. (Khadija) Dompierre, Jr.; numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and her special companion of the last few years, Keith Wills.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Donald; her second husband, Wilfred; a granddaughter, Caresse Dompierre; and three sisters: Violet Oakley, Doris Cooper and Rosemary Sanders-Lang.
Gladys’ family would like to thank the staff at Mill Creek Assisted Living and UP Home Health and Hospice for their wonderful care provided.
Visitation will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Negaunee on Wednesday, May 27th from 9:30 am until the time of funeral services at 11:30 am. Rev. Jim Martindale will officiate.
