Constance Jean “Connie” Stanford
BRIGHTON, MI – Constance Jean “Connie” Stanford, age 78, passed away on May 22, 2026, in Brighton, Michigan. She was born on November 25, 1947, in Ishpeming, Michigan, to the late George and Viena Youren.
Connie was raised in Marquette and was a graduate of Marquette Senior High School, Class of 1965. She continued her education at Northern Michigan University and the University of Michigan, where she earned her undergraduate degree in education, later going on to receive her master’s degree from Oakland University. She dedicated many years to teaching elementary students and special education students until her retirement.
Connie loved the University of Michigan and enthusiastically followed Michigan Wolverines sports teams through the years. She enjoyed shopping, spending time outdoors, picnics in the park, going out for ice cream, and especially loved downhill skiing in her younger years. Connie was also creative and artistic, finding enjoyment in various arts and crafts, including silk screening. She had a great sense of humor and found much pleasure in playing the piano.
She is survived by her children, Sarah Nick and Franklin Stanford; her siblings, Lynn (Scott) Stobbelaar, Joseph (Sue) Youren, and Christine (Lisa) Smith; and by several nieces and nephews: Erica Smith, Amanda Pool, Carl Stobbelaar, Carrie Wareck, Amos Youren, Benjamin Youren, and April Youren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Viena Youren.
Cremation has taken place. Burial and a celebration of Connie’s life will be held at Park Cemetery at a later date.
