Nickolas Martin

NEGAUNEE, MI – Nickolas Laurila Martin, age 31, of Negaunee, ascended into heaven to be welcomed by family who have passed and his hero, Kobe Bryant.

Nick was born in Grand Rapids on the most special Christmas Day, December 25, 1994, to Kelly Laurila and Gary Martin. He was a proud graduate of Negaunee High School, Class of 2013. Following his passion and dedication to hard work, Nick was employed as a mason with the Laborer’s Union Local 1329, where he worked diligently, proudly and with a little fun alongside his fellow union members.

Nick was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Michigan Wolverines and was in a different kind of heaven to be able to watch Michigan win the national basketball championship (Go Blue!). Nick loved the outdoors and nature and spent many, many hours on a river with a pole and a beer, or outdoors hunting bird and deer during those seasons. He loved to spend time with friends and family at camp on the Escanaba River.

Most of all, Nick was known for his kind-hearted spirit and willingness to always help others. He had a perma-smile on his face and never left anyone without a hug and a ‘love ya.’ He embraced life, spread joy and never failed to lend a hand to those in need. His numerous friends and classmates were near and dear to his heart and he enjoyed every moment he spent with all of them.

Nick is survived by his heartbroken mother, Kelly Jandron; his father, Gary Martin; his beloved sister, Gabby Martin; and his brothers Cory, Tony, Jacob and Tyler Jandron. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins – too many to mention by name but all of whom were loved deeply. He was preceded in death by his step-father, Robbie Jandron; his grandparents: Bruce and Nancy Laurila, and Robert and Dolores Jandron.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM-12:30 PM on Wednesday, April 22nd at Bethany Lutheran Church in Negaunee. A Memorial Service will begin at 12:30 PM with Rev. Lloyd Luedeman officiating. Luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. Interment will take place in the Negaunee Cemetery.

In honoring Nickolas’s compassion for animals and community, and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to UPAWS in his memory. Nick’s memorial page may be viewed at koskeyfuneralhome.com.
