Michael Richard Kesti
OROVILLE, CA – Michael Kesti, 73, a longtime Nevada City resident who had recently been living in Oroville, passed away peacefully at home on April 1, 2026.
Michael grew up in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, where he developed the passions that would shape his life–music, engineering, and a deep appreciation for the people who supported him. He began playing guitar as a teenager and soon became a dedicated bassist, performing in numerous bands. Music remained one of the great joys of his life, and he often said he found his happiest moments “linking the melodic and rhythmic parts of ensembles by playing bass.”
A gifted engineer, Michael built a long and respected career in the broadcasting and television technology industry, contributing to major products and mentoring younger engineers with his characteristic patience and precision.
He is survived by his daughter Jennifer Fry and son-in-law Jason Fry of Roseville, his son Matthew Kesti, his sister Leanne of Ishpeming, and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Elizabeth “Bets” Kesti and Harold Kesti, and brothers Gerald and Robert.
Michael will be remembered for his principled integrity, his creativity, and his enduring love for family and music.
