James R. Pearson

ISHPEMING, MI – James R. Pearson, Sr., 74, of Ishpeming, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2026, at UP Health System-Marquette following a brief illness.

Born July 7, 1951, in Marquette, Jim was the son of the late Robert and Elvira (Kauppila) Pearson. He was raised in Marquette, graduated from Marquette Senior High School, and remained a lifelong resident of the area.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged, later continuing his education at the Northern Michigan Skill Center before settling down to raise a family. He found his greatest happiness in life’s simple pleasures–time at camp, quiet days hunting in the woods, and peaceful hours spent fishing. He also had a deep love for animals, especially his loyal dogs, Sam and Milo. A natural storyteller, Jim shared tales that brought laughter and wonder to those around him. Although the ranch in Texas he often spoke of remained a mystery, those who loved him take comfort in imagining him there now, at peace.

He is survived by his sons, Stuart (Courtney) Pearson of Midland, MI, and James (Jodi Parlato-Crist) Pearson, Jr. of Gwinn, MI; his daughter, Danielle (Derrick) Johnson of Sagola, MI; his step-daughters, Dawn (Dave) Holsworth of Negaunee, MI, Deanna (Craig) Lovelace of Minot, ND, and Kelli (Darren) Bivins of Minot, ND; his sister, Connie (Scott) Jones of Kent, WA; his best friend, Kevin; and many grandchildren, nieces, and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Christine Pearson, in 2012; three sisters, Judith, Joan, and Catherine; and one brother, Stuart Pearson.

A memorial service will be held this summer, details will be forthcoming.
