William John Windsand
ISHPEMING, MI – Ishpeming- William John Windsand, age 80, longtime area resident, passed away on Sunday March 15, 2026 at UP Health System Marquette while in the loving care of his family, and hospital staff.
William was born in Lansing, MI on January 7, 1946 to William J. and Pauline (Juchemich) Windsand. He worked at Cliffs Dow in Marquette until its closure, he then worked on Mackinac Island for a summer season at the Grand Hotel in their kitchen, and then John worked the remainder of his career at Robbins Flooring Mill in Ishpeming as a boiler attendant, where he operated the boiler system, when the silo started on fire John was able to shut the system down avoiding catastrophic damages. John loved going fishing and camping at the Greenwood Reservoir with his family. He also enjoyed watching old westerns, and enjoyed old cars.
John is survived by his sisters: Ruth Santamore, Bonita (Gene) Maki, brother-in-law: Mike Koczer, nieces Tracie Dowrick, Bonnie Steede, Jon and Sarah Maki of Painsville, OH, Gary Maki, along with many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, niece Bridget Santamore, sisters: Karen Windsand, Marie Koczer, and many aunts and uncles.
Following William’s wishes, cremation will take place with no public services.
