Ronald James Niemi

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI — Ronald James Niemi, age 77, of Marquette, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2026, at home, in the loving and comforting care of his family.

Ronald was born in Marquette on August 27, 1948, the son of John and Rhoda (Hill) Niemi. He was raised in Palmer and graduated from Negaunee High School with the Class of 1966.

Following high school, Ron began his career with Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. (CCI) at the Empire Mine, where he retired as Maintenance Supervisor. His dedication and strong work ethic were evident throughout his long career.

On April 23, 1993, Ron married the love of his life, Linda Priebe, and together they shared many happy years.

Ron enjoyed an active life. He loved golfing and, in his younger years, played softball, ski jumped, bowled in various leagues, and participated in cribbage leagues. He was known as a friendly, welcoming, and caring man who deeply loved his family. He was a loyal friend and took great pride in his grandchildren.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Linda; his children, Lori (Mike) Lancour of Marquette and their children Ben (Cami) Ford, and Great Grandson Elijah Ford and Andy (Allie) Lancour and their children Tucker, Quinn, Kenna Lancour, Amanda (Aaron) Adriona and their children; Hayden, Charlotte and Everet; son, Ron (Teri) Niemi of Wesley Chapel, Florida; their children; McKenzie, Hunter, Ronnie, Alyssa Syrjala; his stepson, Scott Mager of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin; and his children Micaela and Sierra Mager.

He is also survived by his siblings, Darryl Niemi, Sid Niemi, Wayne (Karen) Kennedy, Doug Niemi, Daryl Niemi, Larry (Helen) Niemi, Jon Abba, Scott (Barb) Niemi, his sisters-in-law, Paulette Parent and Pat Johns; along with Special Nieces; Barb Hellman, Heather Edmondson, Cheryl Wakkuri, Mary Horvath, Cyndi Sobczak, Abby Hellman. Special Nephews; Max Hellman, Jon Wakkuri, Keith Miller. He is also survived by the Jarvi cousins, and many special friends, Especially Katie Mager.

He was preceded in death by his parents; John and Joan Niemi and Marilyn and step-dad Stanley Jarvi. His brothers, Edward Niemi and David Niemi, and his grandson, Jordan Ford.

Visitation for Ron will be held at the Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm. A devotion will be held at 2:00 pm with Pastor Paul Agenten officiating. A reception will be held during the visitation in the funeral home reception room.
