Agnes Erickson
MARQUETTE, MI – Agnes Erickson, 86, of Marquette, passed away Thursday morning, March 26, 2026, at her home under the care of her loving family and Lake Superior Life Care & Hospice.
She was born January 10, 1940, in Hamtramck, MI, a daughter of Stanley and Genevieve (Rydzewski) Poniatowski. She was raised in Detroit and Pinconning, MI and was a 1957 graduate of St. Michael’s Catholic High School. She attended Central Michigan University where she earned an Associate’s degree.
Agnes worked as a teacher at Washington School in Bangor Township. She moved to Marquette in 1969 with her family. She worked as a hostess at the Heritage House and Garden Room before taking a position as a unit clerk in the Family Birthing Center at the former Marquette General Hospital where she worked for 27 years, retiring in 2005.
She was a devout catholic, attended daily Mass, Eucharistic Adoration and took part in Rosary prayers for “Life”.
Her hobbies included crafting, sewing and spending time with her family. She was a Detroit Red Wings fan and enjoyed watching various sports. She maintained an exercise routine, stopped by weekly for her favorite loaf of ciabatta bread at Huron Mountain Bakery, she liked going shopping and frequented the local Co-Op deli.
Agnes is survived by her children, Rebecca (Brad) Adams, Francine (Ed) Sanderson, Carl Erickson and Michelle (Bernie) Lane; grandchildren, Jessica (Jon) Betz, Charlie (Liz) Bell, Melanie (Andy) Johnston, Eddie Sanderson, Mason Lane and Nik Erickson; great-grandchildren, Halley, Elin, Adalynn, Wilhelmina and Logan; siblings, Madelene Salgat, Leonard (Dale) Poniatowski; sisters-in-law, Lisa & Barbara Poniatowski; and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert and Stephen Poniatowski; brother-in-law, Paul Salgat; son-in-law, Terry Bell; and former spouse, Carl Erickson.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at St. Louis the King Catholic Church from 10-11 am. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am in the church with Rev. Thomas Merkel officiating. A luncheon will follow the Mass in Gauthier Hall. Interment will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery.
