Marvin L. Ruhinen
GWINN, MI- Marvin L. Ruhinen, 77, of Gwinn, passed away peacefully on the morning of February 14, 2026, at UP Health System – Marquette.
Marvin was born on August 30, 1948, in Great Falls, MT, the third of five children born to Lincoln and Eleanore Ruhinen. He graduated from Gwinn High School in 1966.
He enlisted in the United States Navy, serving from 1968 to 1972. During his time in the Navy, he was stationed in the Tonkin Gulf aboard the USS Coral Sea. After his military service, Marvin began a long and dedicated career in federal civil service. He started as a worker at the former K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base commissary and advanced to become a procurement officer for the Air Force commissary system. His work took him to several duty stations, including an assignment in Aviano, Italy. He retired after many years of faithful service.
Marvin had a deep love for the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He cherished the time spent in the woods and on the water with relatives and his many friends in Gwinn. He was also a very active and devoted supporter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Gwinn, maintaining strong ties with fellow veterans and the community he loved. Marvin was also an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Tigers.
Marvin is survived by his daughter, Kelli (Robert) Roebuck of Trent Woods, NC; three beloved grandchildren, Wesley, McKinley and little Lincoln; his siblings, Lincoln (Dawn) Ruhinen of Athens, OH; Gary Ruhinen of Marquette; Diane (Terry) Taylor of Mt. Pleasant, MI; and Deborah Yelland of Merritt Island, FL; along with numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lincoln and Eleanore Ruhinen; his sister-in-law, Reena Ruhinen; and his brother-in-law, Roy Yelland.
A graveside service will be held for the family in the summer of 2026 at Elo Cemetery in Tapiola, Michigan.
