Joan C. Bennett

MARQUETTE, MI – Joan Claire Bennett, 86, of Marquette, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, February 24, 2026, at her home.

She was born March 29, 1939, in Marquette, the daughter of Dr. Bernhardt and Agnes (Durboraw) Micklow. She was a graduate of Graveraet High School and was a proud Marquette resident.

Joan married John “Jack” William Bennett in 1957. Jack died suddenly in 1974 and Joan was left a young widow and mother at 34 years old. She owned and operated Bennett Travel for many years.

She absolutely loved life and was an eternal optimist with a smile on her face. Nothing made her happier than socializing with her friends while enjoying good food and laughter. Joan had many passions including travel, music,reading, films and creating art. Joan avidly followed politics, professional tennis, and ice skating.

She is survived by three children, Dawn (Kurt) Liljeberg of Charleston ,SC, Gregory (Kallie) Bennett of Marquette and Matthew Bennett of Ishpeming; grandchildren, Stephen (Grace) Liljeberg of Charleston, SC, Lydia (Brandon) Bennett-Carnes of Nashville, TN, Katherine Burnett of Marquette, Jacqueline (Drew) Wagner of Marquette; great-grandchildren, Jack Liljeberg, Elliott Carnes, Jack Burnett and Nadia & Enzo Wagner. Joan also had a special relationship with Kallie’s twin boys, Nicholas Bonner and Hayden Bonner, both of Marquette and her nephew James Walker (Terri Vaneyck) of Marquette and sisters-in-law Patricia Micklow and Ruth Bennett Hartig of Marquette.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Pam Micklow-Walker, Dr. Bruce Micklow and Stephen Micklow; and great-grandson, Brayden Burnett.

No services will be held at this time.
