Susan (Schneider) Engel
ENGLEWOOD, CO- Susan (Schneider) Engel, 67, of Colorado and Ontonagon, died Friday in Colorado surrounded by her loving family following a lengthy illness.
Sue was born Sept. 2, 1958, in Marquette, the youngest of six children born to Henry âHineyã Schneider Sr. And June (Peterson) Schneider. She grew up in Marquette, moving to Sault Ste. Marie for her senior year in high school and graduating with honors from Sault Area High School in 1976.
She attended Northern Michigan University and on June 25, 1982, married Rodney Engel in Marquette. The couple moved to the Denver, Colo., area in the mid-1980s and raised their daughter and two sons. Sue worked for many years at the Southglenn Library, a branch of the Arapahoe Library District, and enjoyed watercolor painting. In recent years, Sue and Rod spent time in the summers at thier home in Ontonagon near the Lake Superior beach she enjoyed walking along so much.
Surviving are her husband Rod; daughter Laura Engel and son Mason Engel, both of Colorado; a sister, Carol (David) Voelker of Marquette; brothers Charles (Betty) Schneider and David (Laurie) Schneider, both of Marquette; sisters-in-law Nancy Schneider and Barbara Snyder, both of Marquette; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Andy in 2017, and two brothers, Henry “Hiney” Schneider Jr. and Alan Schneider.
A memorial gathering will be held in The Upper Peninsula at a later date.
