You have been a part of our lives for 35+ years filled with sporting events, holiday gatherings, concerts, theater performances, dinners, celebrations and all the in-between things. So many memories! I can’t remember if you adopted us or we adopted you. I think it was a little of both.
Phil Sherlock chose a life of service & adventure. During the Vietnam war he served as commander in the Coast Guard’s Ninth District. He was stationed in Germany & Norway and later, Hancock Michigan which included maintaining lighthouses on Isle Royal. Phil was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for his dedicated service in the Coast Guard. As part of his training for the Coast Guard, he had earned his degree as an electronics technician in 1965 from St. Lawrence Technological University.
Phil was captivated by the sheer beauty of the Upper Peninsula during the time he was stationed in Hancock and was determined to put down roots in Marquette Michigan. He built his own home on a parcel of land in Negaunee Township. He started his own business. His knowledge of technology and computer skills led to opening a computer/electronics business, “Shertron”, which he operated for a number of years, programming computer systems for the Mead Corporation in Munising as well as servicing local businesses in the Marquette area.
In 1995, Phil received his whitewater river safety and rescue training. He loved the thrill and challenge of whitewater rafting and canoeing as well as the pure serenity of paddling down a calm river. He was also known as an expert guide, happy to share his love of Marquette & surrounding areas with family, friends and people new to the area.
For many years, Phil was an active member of the Exchange Club of MARQUETTE. He enjoyed the company of like-minded people as well as giving back to the community he loved.
Phil enjoyed working at Pride Printing, where he was an employee for 20+ years, and the teamwork and camaraderie it provided.
Phil loved the theater. He enjoyed working as the sound and lighting technician for many productions at the Vista Theater in Negaunee.
Phil loved animals… Both wild and domestic. He enjoyed and took great pleasure in the companionship & unconditional bond he had with his many cats & golden retrievers.
Phil appreciated not only well done nature, science, history documentaries, but also works of art with a particular fondness for Escher.
Phil was a die-hard Red Wings fan!!!
Dear Phil, you are so deeply missed. We consider ourselves fortunate to have had you in our lives and we will forever carry you in our hearts.
