Nancy Fassbender

GRAND RAPIDS, MI- Nancy P. Fassbender, age 88, died on January 18, 2026, in Grand Rapids, MI surrounded by family.

She was born in Ironwood, MI to Helen (Jungo) and Thomas Pribble on August 3, 1937.

Nancy was a school teacher for the Marquette Public Schools for almost 30 years. She mostly taught eighth grade English, but also at times introductory Spanish language and seventh grade English. She attended Northern Michigan University earning both a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in English studies.

Nancy was involved in many civic and volunteer activities to include membership at St. Michaels Catholic parish, St Christophers Catholic parish, and the St Vincent DePaul society. She and her husband Michael enjoyed travelling and spent several winters post retiring in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Long time residents of Marquette, they enjoyed spending time with their friends and family.

Nancy was a good mother to her three boys, and an exceptional and loyal wife to her husband Michael for 65 years. Nancy loved Marquette and the Upper Peninsula and struggled with her relocation to Grand Rapids in the final years of her life. She died of complications due to Alzheimer’s disease.

She is survived by her children Michael P. Fassbender and wife Susan (Labugen), Gregory Fassbender and wife Laura (Tobar), and Christopher Fassbender. Grandchildren Kara Fassbender, Jenna Fassbender and Mia Fassbender.

Her husband Michael J. Fassbender preceded her in death on June 10, 2025. Her four sisters Louise, Jean, Lee, Mary Helen and one brother Thomas; had all preceded her in death.

Any donations in lieu of flowers can be made to an Alzheimer’s disease research fund.

A memorial service will be held at Saint Andrews Cathedral in Grand Rapids, MI at 10 a.m. on February 12, 2026.
