John Henry “Jack” Berglund

SKANDIA, MI – John Henry “Jack” Berglund, age 95, of Skandia, passed away on January 18, 2026.

Jack was born in Marquette, Michigan on June 23, 1930, the son of Otto and Evangeline (Peterson) Berglund. Jack was raised in Skandia on the family farm, where he spent most of his life. He attended school in Marquette and later proudly served his country after joining the United States Army in 1953. He served honorably until 1955, earning his GED during his time in the military.

Following his honorable discharge, Jack returned to Skandia and began a lifelong career as a pipe fitter and welder, becoming a member of the Local 111. Known for his strong work ethic, Jack was self-employed for many years, welding during the day and running his excavation business at night.

Jack liked nothing more than being out on one of his tractors, even at the age of 95. He would be out on his property cutting wood until he couldn’t start the chainsaw at 92. He also made two ponds on his property where he stocked fish in one and we all had fun feeding the fish. For a time he raised white faced beef cattle. He enjoyed visiting the casino and going to play club keno and have a cold Pabst Blue Ribbon. Above all Jack was known for his generosity, always willing to lend a hand.

On December 8, 1956, Jack married Susan Johnson, and together they raised their family in Skandia.

Jack is survived by his children: Brian (Ye) Berglund of Tomah, WI; Tammie (Kevin) Kaukola of Skandia; Penni (Jerry) Kronschnabel of Wausau, WI; and Jon Berglund of Bruce Crossing. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Erica Berglund, Erin Berglund, Lindzie (Josh) Kaukola-Snyder, Graysen Kronschnabel, Jon (Jane) Berglund, and Jordan (Cullen) Ledy; and his great-grandchildren: Aiden Czarnik, Elise Czarnik, and Brooks Berglund. Additional survivors include his siblings: Steve (Janet) Berglund, Sara (Wayne) Fisher, and Diana (Michael) Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews; and his significant other, Lois Kokko, and her daughter Jolene Kokko.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Susan, his brothers Raymond (Ruth) Berglund and Lee (Vonda) Berglund, and his nephews Lee Berglund and James Berglund.
