Cheryl Salmer

TILDEN TOWNSHIP, MI- Cheryl Virginia Salmer, 79, of Tilden Township, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee while in the care of her loving family.

Cheryl was born June 22, 1946 in Detroit to James and Virginia (Tuovila) Weir and was raised in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. She was a proud graduate of National Mine High School, Class of 1964. Following graduation, she met the love of her life, the late Dennis Salmer, and they were united in marriage on February 6, 1965.

Cheryl was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Tilden Township and enjoyed being a member of the quilter’s club. She was an avid volunteer, enjoyed traveling, spending time at camp on Charley Lakes and family trips to Florida. Above all, Cheryl loved spending time with family, especially her beloved grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Pam (Wayne) Rankinen of Tilden Township; grandchildren: Katie and Zack; brother, Brian; sister, Cindy; cousin, JoAnn; and her treasured dog, Maddie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dennis in 2021; and her son Michael Salmer in February of 2025.

Family and friends are invited to visit and pay respects from 10-11 am on Monday, January 19th at Koskey Funeral Home, a formal service will not be held. Burial will take place with her husband and son in the Negaunee Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Cheryl’s memory to Faith Lutheran Church, 180 Co. Rd. PPO, Ishpeming, MI 49849.
