NEGAUNEE, MI – Stanley John Laituri, age 82, of Negaunee, passed away at home on December 19, 2025.

Stanley was born in Ishpeming, the son of John and Irene (Romback) Laituri, and was raised in Negaunee. When he was five years old, his family moved to Suomi, where he spent much of his childhood surrounded by nature and alongside his maternal grandparents, with whom he shared a close bond. He graduated from Negaunee High School in 1961.

Following high school, Stanley proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era as a jet engine mechanic for four years. After receiving an honorable discharge, he continued his education at Northern Michigan University, where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Accounting.

On February 14, 1969, Stanley married the love of his life, Linda Blaha, and together they raised their family in Negaunee. Professionally, Stanley spent over 20 years working as an accountant for The Mining Journal.

Stanley spent the majority of his life in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, a place he deeply cherished. He loved the Detroit Lions, carpentry, helping others, and the outdoors. His passions included hunting, fishing, camping, skiing, and simply being in the forest enjoying its wildlife. He had a deep appreciation for all parts of nature.

Known for his kindness and gentle spirit, Stanley always greeted others with a smile, and made time for everyone. He was a steady presence, a devoted husband and father, and a friend to many.

Stanley is survived by his loving wife, Linda; his children, Tina Barber of Marquette, Steve (Sarah) Laituri of Negaunee, and Brenda (Dan) Laituri-Cass of Gladstone; his grandchildren, Conner, Kyle, Callie, and Lydia Barber, Taylor Blake, Marley, and Taylor Cyrene; and his brothers, Richard, David (Reva), and Gary (Judy).
