Raymond Durant
SANDS TOWNSHIP, MI- Raymond Edmond Durant, 83, of Sands Township, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at UP Health System while in the care of his loving family.
Ray was born at home in Republic March 27, 1942 to Henry and Aili (Maki) Durant and attended Republic Central School. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army, having served during Vietnam. Ray married Marilyn Mattson on March 4, 1967 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic and they raised their family in Sands Township.
Ray was employed as a plant repairman at the Empire Mine for Cleveland Cliffs, retiring in 1997 with 30 years of service. He enjoyed woodworking, spending time at camp and being outdoors; hunting, fishing, four wheeling and snowmobiling.
Surviving are his wife, Marilyn Durant; two daughters: Tracy (David) St. Aubin of Quinnesec and Tammy (Erik Thoren) Durant of DePere; son, Scott (Anna) Durant of Marquette; eight grandchildren: Alex and Kate, Devin, Cullen, Killian and Josie, and Bryce and Drew; brother, Paul (Kathy) Durant of Fon du Lac; sister, Rosemary (Doug) Seage of Tucson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jimmy and Robin Durant; and a sister, Marilyn Kangas.
Ray’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Singletrack Health and UPHS Marquette for their wonderful care.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Interment will take place in the Republic Cemetery.
