John Charles Martin

MARQUETTE, MI- John Charles Martin, age 81 of Marquette, passed away on December 13, 2025 at UP Health System in Marquette.

John was born on January 16, 1944, the son of John and Mary Lou (Ellis) Martin in Marquette and later graduated from high school in Ketchikan, Alaska. Following his graduation, he proudly served in the United States Army. After his discharge, John moved to Milwaukee, where he lived and worked for a number of years before returning home to Marquette.

Upon returning, John began his career in the banking industry, which eventually led him into the real estate business. He enjoyed a long and successful career as a commercial real estate broker with Select Realty, where many of his clients became lifelong friends. John had a gift for connecting with people and blessed those around him with the gift of laughter.

Work was a central part of John’s life, but when he wasn’t working, he enjoyed golfing, sharing his love of the game with a special group of friends who brought him years of friendship and laughter. In his younger years, John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. Later in life, he found enjoyment in watching the stock market and golf. John was known for his humor and his ability to make anyone laugh. He had his own way of showing love, when you were his friend, you knew it.

John will be deeply missed by his beloved miniature poodle, Lucy, who rarely missed an opportunity to snuggle by his side.

John is survived by his wife, Darlene; children Tina (Chad) Rowley of Skandia, Jackie Martin of Idaho, Jennifer (Josh) Shaffar of Las Vegas, Nevada, Kimberly (Curt) Swenson of California, Brandi (Phil) Beukema of Wisconsin, and Andre (Mercedes) Martin of Idaho; sister Jackie (Don) Britton; along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
