Janice A. Lindstrom
MARQUETTE, MI- Janice A. Lindstrom, 88, of Marquette, died Tuesday morning, December 16, 2025, at Trillium House while under the care of Lake Superior Life Care & Hospice.
She was born August 11, 1937, in Syracuse, New York, a daughter of Einar and Anita (Boudreau) Lindstrom.
Jan earned her undergraduate degree from the College of New Rochelle and a degree in medicine from New York State Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, NY. She completed an internship at St. Louis University Medical Center in St. Louis, MO and a residency at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI. Shen then served as a faculty member at Michigan State Universityás College of Human Medicine from 1972 to 1978.
Jan moved to Marquette in 1978 and started a private medical practice in neurology until her retirement in 1990. She met Bob Wester at the Tip Top Cafe and they married in 1981. She and Bob enjoyed travel, gardening, building a small camp on Mud Lake and sailing their West Wight Potter sailboat on Lake Superior. They were founding members of the North Country Trail Hikers Chapter of the North Country Trail Association.
Following her retirement, Jan served as a volunteer member of committees at Marquette General Hospital and the Michigan Dept. of Natural Resources. Later Jan took up golf and in 2013 moved to Hilton Head, SC, returning for annual summer visits to the UP and finally moving back in 2018.
Jan is survived by a sister, Shirley Gelman of Palm Desert, CA; niece, Susan Mathews of Connecticut; nephews, Peter Lindstrom of Pennsylvania, Paul Lindstrom of Ohio, Glen Lindstrom of Arizona, nephews David Gelman in California and Peter Gelman in Oregon and a niece, Pamela Gelman in California, step-son, Rick Wester of Marquette; step-grandsons, Jason and Brian Wester of Marquette; step-great-granddaughter, Kirsten Wester of Ishpeming; step-great-great-grandson, Lane Milner; and numerous great-nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a twin brother, Philip Lindstrom, brother, Gary Lindstrom, niece Ann Marie Clark and sister-in-law, Marcia Lindstrom of Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Jan’s wish is that in lieu of formal services, friends and family will gather informally to remember her. There will be a memorial gathering in the summer, date to be announced.
