Anthony Denofre
NEGAUNEE, MI-Anthony James ‘Tony’ Denofre, 60, of Negaunee, entered eternal life early Saturday morning, December 6, 2025 at UP Health System in Marquette while in the care of his loving family.
Tony was born May 3, 1965 in Ishpeming to Michael ‘Mickey’ and Marilyn (Lahti) Denofre. Tony, affectionately knowns as ‘gubbs’ or referred to his friends as ‘gubbs’, graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1983. Gubbs pursued various career paths and graduated from NMU before ulitimately concluding as a plumber/pipefitter with UA Local 111 in the UP.
Tony ‘gubbs’ was a vibrant individual who illuminated every gathering, with a deep love for the outdoors and sportsmans. Tony enjoyed hunting whitetail and fishing, especially on the ice. His favorite place to be was at camp on Charley Lakes.
Surviving are his mother, Marilyn Kunnari of Negaunee; his two cherished sons: Brandon of Negaunee and Alex of Chicago; four sisters: Rebecca Denofre, Mary (Tim) Hooper, Patricia (Tim) Luokkala and Jeanne (William) Luokkala; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father in 1989.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Monday, December 15th at St. Paul Catholic Church with Rev. Larry Van Damme officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church for one hour prior to Mass, and also at a luncheon in the St. Paul Gymnasium immediately following. Pallbearers will be Chris Bonk, Brandon Denofre, Alex Denofre, Chad Kallioinen, Jesse Kallioinen, and Tim Luokkala. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery.
