Renee Prusi

Renee was born September 4, 1958 in Ishpeming to Alex ‘Whitey’ and Irene (Schroderus) Prusi and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1976. She then earned her bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Central Michigan University in 1980 prior to beginning her career with The Mining Journal, where she worked as a reporter and later an editor for over 41 years. There she also served as a mentor to younger colleagues as well as journalism students at Northern Michigan University.

Renee was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Negaunee VFW Auxiliary. She was an avid sports fan of the Negaunee Miners, Detroit Red Wings and Green Bay Packers, GPG! She was a passionate devotee of live music and would travel throughout the U.P. to see her favorite artists play. As a lover of animals, she rescued and adopted many cats over the years. Her weekly “Caturday” photos were the highlights of her friends’ Facebook feeds.

Through her work, her activities and the way she lived her life, Renee touched the lives of hundreds of people over the years. If she was your friend it was for life, and she would hold you in her heart forever. Her many friends will miss her deeply and treasure their memories of her smile, her laughter and her loving spirit.

Surviving are her brothers, Alex (Leslie Bankston) and Eric (Christine) Prusi, both of Florida; her sister, Christine Gallagher of Rhode Island; nieces and nephews: Nathan (Andrea) Prusi, Karen Prusi Smyth, Marga (Jim) Palmer Spence and Maxx (Amanda) Palmer; special great-niece, Maija Renee Spence and great-nephew Jacob Raymond Spence, along with numerous other great-nieces and nephews, and hundreds of cousins.

Renee was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Mark.
