William Robert Lyons

He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on November 8, 1937, the son of the late Michael Lyons and Stanley Laura (Eagen) Lyons. William graduated from Bishop Neuman High School in Philadelphia.

Prior to college he served in the United States Army in Germany, He attended the Philadelphia Police Academy and following completion he worked on the Philadelphia Police Department until he moved to Marquette. Attending Temple University while he was on the Police Department, he completed his studies and graduated with a BS from Northern Michigan University.

Following his completion of college he became the Chief of Security of Northern Michigan University for ten years. He then worked and managed the office for Marquette Family Practice.

During his life he enjoyed his reading and music and was an avid music lover and collected many recordings of classical, jazz, and easy listening. Bill always enjoyed good music and a good drink of Scotch.

Bill is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Laura) Lyons of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Kathleen Lyons of Saint Petersburg, Florida; and one grandson, Merrick Lyons; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and three beloved grand dogs. He was two living sisters, Gertrude Sadowsky and Anne Nathan and one niece, Laura Laughlin and one nephew, Gregory Sadowsky.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara E. Lyons on February 11, 2021.

A memorial service will be held in July 2026 and will be announced.
