Kenneth Pringle

MARQUETTE, MI- Kenneth Bernard Pringle, lovingly known as ‘Papa Ken’ age 89, of Marquette, Michigan, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on October 15, 2025.
Ken was born at home in Sagola, Michigan, on August 9, 1936, to Bernard (‘Bernie’) and Elizabeth (‘Betty’) Pringle, both of whom preceded him in death. He spent his life rooted in the Upper Peninsula, where he built a legacy of love, hard work, and unwavering dedication to family.
Ken proudly served in the United States Coast Guard and later worked in road construction out of Iron River, Michigan. His work ethic was matched only by his devotion to those around him.
He was a proud grandfather to 40 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 37 great-grandchildren. Ken was a die-hard Chicago Bears fan, and you could always find him in front of the tv on Sunday, cheering them on. Papa Ken was deeply involved in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren – always present, always supportive, and always ready to lend a hand or share a story. Whether working on the family farm, spending time outdoors, or simply being there for those he loved, Ken’s presence was a constant source of strength and joy.
Ken’s life was defined by his quiet generosity, instant quick wit, loyalty, and deep love for family. He will be remembered for the way he showed up – every day, in every season – with a heart full of kindness and a spirit that never wavered.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Ellen (Connors), with whom he shared a deep and enduring bond. When Papa Ken joined Mary Ellen’s family, he embraced her children as his own, becoming a devoted stepfather and a steady presence in their lives. Later, Papa Ken had the good fortune of meeting his loving partner, Sandra ‘Sandy’ Nelson, with whom he spent the last 25 years. Some of their fondest memories came from Lakeland, Florida, where they spent every winter surrounded by friends. Sandy continues to live in their home in Marquette.
Ken is survived by his children: Bryan Pringle, Tammy Pringle, Cindy (Kevin) Tessmer, Candee (Bob) VanDamme, Connie Beauchamp, Carol (Bryan) Lancour, Leslie (Elizabeth) Johnson, Archie (Diane) Johnson, Terri Ellen Couillard, Kim Nelson. He is also survived by his brother, Jim (Cheryl) Pringle.
Ken was preceded in death by his children Randy Bark, Trudy Chambers, and Brandy Nelson, along with grandchildren Michael Bark and Travis Johnson.
A celebration of Papa Ken’s life will take place on Saturday, October 18, 2025, with visitation beginning at 11:00 am followed by a service at 12:00 noon at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming, with Archie Johnson to officiate and Bob Van Damme as a speaker. The US Coast Guard will accord Military Honors.
Pallbearers being his son (Bryan), stepsons (Bryan, Archie, Leslie, Bob) and grandson (D.J.).
There will be a reception immediately following at Lost Creek Hall in Marquette. All who knew and loved him are welcome. A private burial to follow at a later date at Hillview Cemetery in McFarland, MI.
