Keith Ihamaki

Keith was born January 12, 1952, in Marquette to Toivo and Jennie (Martonen) Ihamaki and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1970. He studied engineering at Michigan Tech University and then graduated from Northern Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Shortly after, he continued his graduate studies at Minnesota State University. He began working for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company as a young man and then completed his career at Pathways Community Mental Health until his retirement in 2008.

A true Yooper, Keith had a deep love for the beautiful landscapes of the Upper Peninsula and found great joy in gardening and painting. He liked spending time outdoors fishing with his buddies, who lovingly gave him the nickname ‘Perch.’ He was also an avid pool player and enjoyed playing his harmonica at every opportunity! More than anything, however, Keith loved quality time with his grandchildren. His life was one of quiet passion – for nature, music, and family.

Surviving are his son, Nathan (Amanda) Ihamaki of Negaunee; daughter, Heather Ihamaki of Pembroke Pines, Florida; grandchildren, Ethan and Payton; and nieces and nephews: Faith, Bruce, Nona, Steven, Julie, Judith, Sally Ann, and Michael.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Toivo and Jennie Ihamaki, and two sisters, Kathleen Bieniek and Sally Mitchell.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Interment will take place at the Negaunee Cemetery.
