Diana T. Schaffer

MARQUETTE, MI-Diana T. Schaffer, 86, of Ishpeming, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice.

Diana was born on July 29, 1939, in Detroit, MI, to Joseph and Mary (Paulikis) Liepinaitis. She graduated with the class of 1958 from St. Cecilia High School in Detroit and later attended the Detroit Business Institute in downtown Detroit.

Diana worked for Automotive News in Detroit for many years before she and her husband, Frank, relocated to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Together, they co-owned and operated Ace Hardware and Ace Heating and Contracting in Ishpeming.

An accomplished artist, Diana had a natural talent and passion for art. She also loved fishing, baking for friends and family, and was a devoted homemaker. Her family was the center of her life. Diana had a special fondness for dogs and was known for her kind and nurturing spirit.

She was a member of St. Peter Cathedral in Marquette, where she participated in the St. Peter Cathedral Prayer Line and was a member of the former Perpetual Adoration Group. Diana held a deep devotion to Our Lady, Mary, Mother of Jesus. She and Frank were also proud members of the Polish Club of Munising and Marquette.

Diana is survived by her husband, Frank C. Schaffer of Ishpeming; her daughter, Donna (Tod) Poirier of Ishpeming; sister-in-law, Mary Liepinaitis of Romeo, MI; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Liepinaitis; her mother and stepfather, Mary and James Samuels; and her brother, Joseph Liepinaitis.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, October 31, 2025 from 12pm until 1pm at St. Peter Cathedral in Marquette. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1pm, with Rev. Brandon Oman officiating. A gathering with coffee and sweets will be held immediately following the Mass. Interment will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery in Chatham, MI.
