Terry Ralph Freeman, Sr.

CHOCOLAY TWP, MI – Terry Ralph Freeman, Sr., 87, of Chocolay Township, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025, at Norlite Nursing Center, surrounded by his family and caregivers at U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
He was born on April 22, 1938, the son of John and Harriet (Burnett) Freeman in Engadine, Michigan, where he was also raised. After completing his education, Terry married the love of his life, Judith Patient, on February 14, 1958. Together, they made their home in Harvey, Michigan, where they raised their family.
Terry worked a variety of jobs before beginning a long and dedicated career with the Lake Superior & Ishpeming Railroad. He worked there for over 30 years, retiring as a crane operator.
Outside of work, Terry had many interests and hobbies. He was an avid collector of coins and stamps, enjoyed hunting and spending time in the woods, and loved tending to his garden. He especially treasured his time at camp. A talented athlete, Terry played softball well into his 40s, most often as first base catcher for many local bars, including Little Richards. He even celebrated a Class C Championship.
Known for his strong will, friendly nature, and gift of conversation, Terry never met a stranger. He was generous, social, and a loyal friend to many.
Terry is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Judith; his children, Terry (Betty) Freeman Jr. of Marquette, Tim Freeman of Marquette, Leanne Freeman of Marquette, and Kelly Freeman of Marquette; grandchildren, Jamie and Jason Freeman, Chris Freeman, Darcey (Chris) Lucas, and Amber (Chris) Heaton; great-grandchildren, Bowden and Harper Lucas, and London and Everly Heaton; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Tracy Freeman; and his sisters, Laurie Freeman and Sonya Linna.
Funeral services for Terry will take place on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at the Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until time of service at 12:00 pm with Pastor Kevin Taylor officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home reception room. Interment will be made in the Park Cemetery.
