John R. Raade

He was born on October 3, 1942, in Detroit, MI and moved to Marquette in September 1945. He attended Froebel Elementary School in Marquette, Ridge Street and Grammar Schools in Ishpeming and graduated from Negaunee High School in June 1960.

John was a Vietnam veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1972, attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer ETC. He was awarded the National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Navy Achievement Medal in recognition of meritorious service in support of combat operations in Southeast Asia from May to September 1969 with the Combat Distinguishing Device authorized. He worked as a television engineer at WNPB-TV 13, an instrument repairman, and electronics instructor at Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company and an electronics technician at Lockheed Martin Corporation.

John was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian and the Disabled American Vets (DAV).

He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Anne (Brian) Snyder; granddaughter, Taylor Anne (Antonio) Valantine; grandson, Jordan John William Martin Snyder; great-grandchildren, Ava Grace, Jude, and Sophia; former spouse, Nadine; and cousin, Paulette Hytinen.

He was preceded in death by his son, Raymond John Raade in November 1988; mother, Edith Dagmar (Karhi) Raade in March 1989; and his father, Raymond John Raade in June 1956 and cousin, Paul Hytinen in August 2018.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.

Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites after the service.
