Caton Forest Roberts

MADISON, WI – Caton Forest Roberts passed away on August 23, 2025, at the age of 70, from bile duct cancer.

He is survived by his spouse, Linda Peters Roberts, and his children, Leah Marion Roberts and Sean Forest Roberts, his father, Allyn Roberts (son of Forest and Esther Roberts of Marquette), as well as brother Clark Roberts and nephew Troy Ramirez, both of Marquette. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betsy Roberts and his sister, Cheralyn Ramirez.

Marquette was a special place for Caton. Growing up, he spent his summers at Middle Island Point where his grandparents and his father had camps. In the last several years of his life, he spent summers renovating his father’s camp and reconnecting with his Marquette roots.

Caton graduated from Carleton College in 1977 and completed a PhD in Clinical and Community Psychology at the University of Illinois Champaign/Urbana in 1989. He retired in 2018 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a Distinguished Faculty Associate Emeritus, leaving a legacy of contributions not only to the students he taught, but to his department and the University. Caton lived a life that was dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge and meaning, the love of family, and the joy of nature. He inspired and touched the hearts of many; he will be deeply missed.
