Linda Henderson

MARQUETTE, MI-Linda Irene Henderson, age 78, of Sundell, MI, passed away after a brief illness on Monday, August 4th, 2025, at UP Health System Marquette.
Linda was born on May 12th, 1947, in Flint, MI. She spent her early years and went to school in Clio, MI. She then went to boarding school at Alma College in St. Thomas, Ontario.
She graduated from Northern Michigan University as an LPN and went to work in the psychiatric unit at Marquette General Hospital until a horseback riding accident led to her early retirement.
Linda lived life boldly and on her own terms. A proud hippie to the end, she was a lifelong horsewoman and dog lover. Although born under the bridge, Linda had a passion for the U.P. that called her to make her home here in her early 20s. She worked as a contractor and crew leader for White Tail Forestry planting trees from Michigan to South Carolina. Linda rode horses all her life, a love she passed down to her following generations. In the 1970s she bred and trained horses on her farm, the ‘Spruceline Quarter Horse Farm,’ in Sundell. Along with Quarter Horses, Doberman Pinschers were also a huge part of her life – Since the 70s she has bred beautiful dogs and multiple champions.
Linda had a gift for conversation. Her home was a place where stories were told, after a day of horseback riding, by the woodstove, surrounded by Dobermans and Siamese cats, with grandchildren curled up listening in awe to the adventures from her childhood and wild, wonderful hippie days.
In the 70s, Linda and her friends threw a ‘mini Woodstock’ on her farm – a party still talked about decades later, with music echoing for miles.
She was an amazing cook whose food was enjoyed by all that tasted it. She had a historian’s mind and spent years researching the life of Nathan Kauffman, aspiring to write a book. She was a member of the Alger County Historical Society and had an endless curiosity for the past. She also had a love for riding in the woods and a knack for hunting morels.
Linda was preceded in death by her mother Evelyn M. Sargent, father Frank T. Sargent, and his second wife, Vivian, and brothers Ronald, David, and Charles ‘Bud.’
She is survived by her children: Andrew Henderson (Sherri), Aaron Henderson (Kaci), and Sara Till. Her grandchildren: Krysta Carroll (Jared), Cole Henderson, Morgan Sylvester, Magnum Henderson, Allison Till, and Garrett Till. And her great-grandchildren: Envi Stephenson and Freya Carroll. She also leaves behind her beloved dobermans, Sunny, Mazie, Sisu, and George, her rescue cat.
A celebration of Linda’s life will be held at the farm in Sundell on August 23rd from 26 PM. All are welcome to attend and share memories.
If you’d like to send flowers for the celebration, they may be sent to the Munising Flower Shop, and the family will pick them up on the 23rd.
