Donald J. Hebert

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI-Donald J. Hebert, 87, of Iron River, MI passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson.
He was born on August 7, 1937, in Stambaugh, MI, the son of the late Dominic and Lorraine (Bomaster) Hebert. Donald attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating with the Class of 1955. He was recruited by two colleges for sports before deciding to attend Michigan Technological University, where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering. While at Michigan Tech, Donald played intramural basketball on team SIRS (Stambaugh Iron River Schools), and his best scoring game was 56 points.
Donald married Patricia Grailer on July 5, 1958, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Stambaugh. The couple resided in Iron River and celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in 2020. Patricia preceded him in death on April 27, 2021.
He worked with his father at Caspian Construction Company until he, his father, and brother Art Hebert started Hebert Construction Company in 1980. Donald was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River, George Youngs Golf Course, Associated General Contractors of America, and a former member of the Iron River Elks Lodge #1671. He also served on the board of the Commercial Bank of Stambaugh and later First America Bank. Donald enjoyed hunting, especially elk, whitetail, duck, and geese, fishing, gardening, and was an avid Green Bay Packers Fan. His favorite place was at camp on Thousand Island Lake.
Donald is survived by his children, Michael (Deann) Hebert of Gwinn, MI, Patrick (Janet) Hebert of Iron River, MI, Sharon (Rick) Rogers of Iron River, MI, and Steve (Nikki) Hebert of Iron River, MI; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Art (Mary) Hebert of Iron River, MI; sister, Mary (Richard) Anderson of Elkhart Lake, WI; brother-in-law, Louis (Rene) Grailer of Minnesota; and numerous extended family members and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Ann Theobald and Donna Banks.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Fr. Daniel Fosu to officiate.
Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery.
